Yes Terry it is ironic that the notion of God sacrificing his Son to pay for the sins of mankind is so compelling as a religious idea. A bit bizarre really. No wonder Judiasim sees Christianity as such an abberation.

Watchtower encouraging members to go and preach in Israel

Israel is safe - the threat from Hama is negligible - you are more likely to die in a car crash - Gaza on the other hand is far from safe.

Kennedy assassination....
by new hope and happiness into me its a great example of a totalitarian government's ability to manage information and keep us in the dark; .
all right it was a long time ago.
should we just forget about it?.

please - enough with the conspiracy theories already - general principles suggest blunder and incompetence win over conspiracy everytime. The bigger the supposed conspiracy the less likley it is on the principle that people can't keep secrets - someone will blab. Terry - thank you for your usual dose of sense in the sea of nonsense that prevails on JWN.

Come with me, back to the 1980s--you know want to.
by FlyingHighNow ini don't know about ya'll, but i did not appreciate the 1980s enough.
i was too busy lamenting how different they were from the 1960s and 1970s to bask in and appreciate how wonderful they were.. this is 80s music, especially new wave music, and 80s fashion and culture appreciation thread.
what did you love about the 80s?

I was a student in the 1980s (I was a student radical while you could still be a student radical but I would have preferred to have been a student in the late 60s or early 70s) and then started my first job and travelled the world so lots of good memories. I hated New Romantic music like Adam Ant, Boy George, Duran Duran etc. (and still do) but loved Tracey Chapman, Eurythmics, Crowded House etc, though 60s and 70s music still dominates my music collection. Lots of good movies in the 80s like the Indiana Jones series. Looking back I realise that youth is wasted on the young. I would have done a few things differently -- like not get married young -- that ended badly -- and perhaps not burning some bridges I burnt. Still live and learn.

Israel is one of the few countries that views Witnesses as a nuisance and so I think it is very misleading to say Israel is safe - I suspect it would be a very hostile environment for witnessing.

JW's and depression
by FeelingFree ini was wondering how many of you suffered badly with depression when you were in "the truth" and if you feel your depression was related to being part of the organisation?
are you better now you have left or still have issue's?
whatever your experience's i would be very intrested to know (if you feel you can talk about it.).

ff - fyi A Watcher is still a captive of the organisation and so sees the world through that distorted lens. Depression goes with beign a Witness like bread goes with butter. How do you expect people to react when they are fed a constant diet of gloom and doom and 'no matter what you are doing it is not good enough'?

Waking up your spouse
by All for show ini am aware this has to be done quite carefully, but how?
while many may complain and see the hypocrisy within the kh's, maybe even with the gb, how does one bring up doctrine issues?
i surely can not tell my husband to "go look what jwfacts.com says".

I agree with don't talk doctirne. Listen to him and find out what makes him feel uncomfortable about the KH. The thing that works best is tapping into his sense of 'never being good enough' meaning 'never doing enough'. Get him to express that sentiment and get him to explore why he feels like that and get him to understand that he feels that when he is at the KH but not at home and do everything to make him feel that at home he is loved and treasured and if he starts to be aware of this hopefully he will spend more time at home and less time at the KH.
